Ali Mahdi – Counselling and Psychotherapy in St Albans
Welcome. I'm glad you've found your way here. Taking the first step towards therapy can feel daunting, and it takes courage to reach out for support.
I am training in Core Process Psychotherapy at the Karuna Institute. This is an approach that integrates relational mindfulness with psychodynamic understanding. It works with the whole person: body, mind, and the relational field between us.
In our sessions, I offer a warm, non-judgmental presence, attending with curiosity and compassion to whatever arises — both in your inner experience and in how we are together in the room.
I work with adults across a broad range of life experiences and difficulties. Each person's journey is unique, and I work to honor your individual needs and experiences. I work under regular clinical supervision as part of my training.
I offer one-hour weekly sessions for adults, in-person in St Albans with some flexibility to work online as and when needed by agreement. Sessions provide a safe, confidential space to explore your experiences and work with what you bring.
Please note: I am a UKCP Psychotherapist in Training, working towards my PG Dip in Core Process Psychotherapy and full UKCP clinical membership. I work under regular clinical supervision to ensure quality of care. My trainee status is reflected in my fee structure, which is set at two-thirds of the local going rate in accordance with Karuna Institute guidelines.
I practise according to the ethical framework of the UKCP, which includes strict guidelines on confidentiality and ensures competence in practice through professional supervision.

New to therapy? It's natural to have questions. Therapy is a collaborative relationship where you can explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe, confidential space.
Mindfulness practices support wellbeing by helping us develop a kinder, more accepting relationship with our present-moment experience—whatever that may be.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is the leading body for psychotherapy regulation in the UK, maintaining high standards for training and practice.
Your first session is an opportunity for us to meet and explore whether working together feels right. There's no obligation, and you're welcome to ask any questions.
What you share in therapy remains confidential, with limited exceptions related to safety. I follow UKCP ethical guidelines to protect your privacy and wellbeing.
I welcome your enquiry and will respond as soon as possible. Feel free to reach out with any questions about therapy or to arrange an initial consultation.
